10 Reasons To Give Books For Christmas

🎄1. Books are easy to wrap:

Books always look lovely with their pristine corners folded in and their pleasing geometry.

🎄2. Books never go out of fashion:

You can keep books indefinitely and they never go out of style. They also never go out of shape or become the wrong size for you.

🎄3. Books nurture passion and promote mental health:

There are so many interests and ideas catered to in books. Many books follow characters as they overcome hardships and problems, which gives the reader the opportunity to learn through someone else’s experience. Empathy, resilience, and understanding can be learned through reading. Do you know anyone who could benefit from reading a book?

🎄4. Buying books support authors:

No one becomes an author to get rich. Buying a book will help a writer. And…if you’re thinking buying a book like Spare by Prince Harry is lining someone’s pocket who really doesn’t need it…consider, many publishing houses take on those big celebrity projects in order to be able to publish lesser-known and debut authors.

🎄5. Books are inexpensive:

Books cost less than gin, or electronics, or tickets to Taylor Swift.

🎄6. Books are the ultimate re-giftable gift, the gift that keeps on giving:

If you are a book-passer-on person, or a lender, the book often nurtures many more than one person. I hoard my books, so I will never be this person, but I love people that are.

🎄7. Books take the receiver on a journey:

Neil Gaiman says ‘Books make great gifts because they have whole worlds inside of them. And it’s much cheaper to buy somebody a book than it is to buy them the whole world.’

🎄8. No one is allergic to books:

Except our own MAC author, Amanda Gambas 😔

🎄9. Books contain no calories.

Unlike many other gifts this time of year, champagne, chocolates, and hampers, books are guilt free little bundles of joy. Increasing your intelligence but not your tummy.

🎄10. Books are the BEST!!!

If you know a reader and are not sure which books they have read, a book voucher is a thing of pure joy and pleasure. To walk into a bookshop and make guilt-free purchases is an excellent gift.

Here are some links to some of our beloved local bookshops. Belgrave Book Barn, Dymocks Knox City, and QBD Knox City.

Through The Looking Glass, in Belgrave is excellent for second hand books.
