My Neighbour

A shrill cry erupts
And a heavy beat of wings thuds through the canopy
As the sea of white within the green and grey shifts above me

Below, a deep damp richness assaults my senses
And the crisping of dry leaves echoes underfoot
Mixing with the crunch of grey stone

Ancients tower above me
Scarred by time and flame
Reaching for the sun and blue sky
Never knowing defeat

Laughter echoes
Again, and again
As more voices join the chorus

A sea of Fibonacci spirals
Curl in the space between sky and earth
Above the dew soaked green
Towers of their own
Swaying gently in the breeze
