This debut novel from Kerryn Mayne is polished and entertaining from start to finish. If you like heroines who are a bit quirky, make up stories to avoid social events, have a couple too many drinks and then become a dognapper (for all the right reasons) then Lenny Marks is your woman.
There is, however, a serious and dark side to the story. Lenny has good reason to be unable to remember her childhood, and keep people at arms-length. As Lenny starts to recall the truth of her past she has to deal with the trauma that comes with it.
The book is well paced and filled with delightful, and some not so delightful, characters and sub plots. The setting in the Dandendong Ranges is a treat too.
Thoroughly recommend.
