The gorgeous cover got me in but that intriguing story pinned me down. Told over eight decades, this is the story of women’s friendship and estrangement. I found the history of this Korean island, Jeju, to be heartbreakingly sad but was fascinated by the tales of the local women’s collectives that dived for seaweed and seafood while the men stayed on land and looked after the children. Conflicted characters and a unique setting make this an interesting and engaging novel.
