{"id":4469,"date":"2024-05-10T21:41:02","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T11:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mountainashchapter.com.au\/?p=4469"},"modified":"2024-05-10T21:41:02","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T11:41:02","slug":"the-funeral-celebrant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mountainashchapter.com.au\/?p=4469","title":{"rendered":"The Funeral Celebrant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funeral celebrant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sitebg-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">He didn\u2019t know him, of course<br>The deceased<br>Instead he stitched together&nbsp;<br>a homespun<br>Cloth of many hues<br>A wifely tale or two<br>A child\u2019s distant memories<br>A mate\u2019s amusing anecdote<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sitebg-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">He didn\u2019t know him, the deceased<br>Wasn\u2019t privy to inside info<br>Couldn\u2019t know the fault lines<br>Of a flawed and fractured life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sitebg-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><br>He wasn\u2019t told the truth, of course<br>Didn\u2019t have much to go on.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sitebg-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">And so<br>Platitudes land flatly in our laps<br>Sphynxes, we sit complicit<br>Willing belief<br>Cliches jar\u00a0<br>Disturbing dissonant<br>Weasel words pool between our chairs\u00a0<br>As we let them slide<br>Untouched<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sitebg-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The bad is cancelled today,<br>Only the good remains\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sitebg-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">He didn\u2019t know him<br>Of course<br>This version of his life is ours to swallow<br>He couldn\u2019t know we\u2019d choke inside<br>Or hear the silent screams of indignation<br>No!
