The mess on the table
Threatens me
the haphazard papers balding pens useless blunt scissors
murky mugs open dusty laptops tissues scrawled on coffee stained calendar
cards for this or that doctor gardener dentist handyman

In a swirl of energy I clean it up
I put things back
I tell them to stay
But they don’t and a week later they’re all back

And so it goes

The mess in my head
Does my head in
The useless plans worthless worries imagined fears dubious doubts awful people
missed appointments buyer remorse unfounded guilt
It’s a maelstrom

I meditate
I pull weeds
Freshly blank I start over saying goodbye to yesterday no thanks I’m fine
I’m out of the gutter I can see the sun
The mess is not missed

But the first encounter photo phone call SMS talk back caller TV show
And it’s all back

And so it goes.
